In case anyone else runs into the problem that Nikita described here
(cross-armv7a-cros-linux-gnueabi/linux-headers-3.1 conflicts with
cross-armv7a-cros-linux-gnueabi/linux-headers-2.6.38), I was able to
work around it by manually uninstalling the older package from my
chroot:

sudo emerge -C cross-armv7a-cros-linux-gnueabi/linux-headers-2.6.38
