I have been lurking at the issue to add Native Messaging API based on its one-sentence description:

A new extensions api that will allow extension to pass messages back and forth with a native application on the host machine.

Something like that could be very useful to me. I would like to understand what is proposed and comment on its development. Is there yet any high-level documentation on this idea, or do I need to glean what I can from the comments in the code check-ins for now?

Thanks,

Jerry

The API just got some documentation: https://developer.chrome.com/trunk/extensions/messaging.html#native-messaging

It's still in development, but should be available soon.
