Mac OS X should have the option to hide the settings button, we
already have Chromium/Chrome options in the menu bar. I think it's a
waste of space having that button in Chromium/Chrome for OS X.

Greetings.

Although, the OS X wrench menu is redundant, Google probably wants a
common look across different OS's. I do think the Wrench Menu needs
simplification and perhaps a UI refresh.

Many of the commands are unnecessary. For example, the "New Tab"
wrench menu button should not exist for the same reason there is no
wrench menu button for refresh. As for the UI, the items could be
represented by icons (as in the FF aurora mock), with more buttons
(like the current edit controls), or in a cleaner list with fewer
divisions and more natural folders.

...though many of the useful keyboard shortcuts for common functions
are only revealed to users through the wrench menu.

...in Windows, anyway. I think Mac should hide it by default and
Windows should have the option to hide it.

I think keyboard shortcuts users are more knowledgeable than the
average user and do not need to see those shortcuts defined in the
wrench menu (ex: IE9). Also, most keyboard shortcuts are common
across programs (ex: Print, Save, History, New Tab). Defining
shortcuts is already accomplished in "Help." The wrench menu should
contain frequently used commands that are not easily accessible in
other areas of the UI.

Perhaps there could be a non-default setting to hide the wrench button
in OS X. However, a hidden wrench button would not be accessible in
Lion's fullscreen mode.
