Howdy folks,

The 5.0 release is quickly coming to a close with the feature/string freeze April 2nd coming in only 11 days (i.e. it's the point where we branch for the beta and all features that we want to ship w/ 5.0 should be functionally live, on trunk, with strings in place ready for translation).  After this point bug and stability fixes will be welcome to the branch, however, with very limited exception, if a feature does not make this release it will have to wait for the next beta/stable milestone.

At this moment we have 750+ open issues open for this release.  Given the timing, I'd kindly ask that all chromium developers to take a quick/ aggressive pass to scrutinize what issues need to be fixed/closed/punted to the next release.

Chromium Development Calendar and Release Info

Key Dates:
  • April 2nd [Friday] - Feature/String Freeze for 5.0 (i.e. all the features that are planned to be in for 5.0 should be in w/ string by this point)
  • April 5th [Monday] - Select a build (post 4/2) for 5.0 branch point/ Dev channel
  • April 19th-23rd [Week of] - 5.0 Beta channel release (Stability and bug fixes only)
  • April 30th [Friday] - Code Complete for 5.0
  • TBD - 5.0 Stable Channel Release (Release quality will dictate timing)
For future reference, moving forward you will be able to find the current release schedule/ release information at http://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/developers/calendar.
