Comment #8 on issue 114683 by jj.route...@gmail.com: Load webpage, then it

ok this happend again on this google search:
https://www.google.com/search?sugexp=chrome,mod=8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=VooMote+Zapper
1st screen shot is the blank page
2nd screen shot is the static image page after I narrowed the window some
3rd screen shot if you look closely my cursor is a hand (like you get when
you are over a link) even though it is in white space of the page. this is
because I scrolled down a little unti the 1st result was under the cursor
4th screen shot when I got the window narrow again and everything started
to work.

sorry the cursor doesn't show up with the default mac screen shot. Trust
me the image is static, but the content is really scrolling behind that
static image.

also stretching the window wide again can will cause the page to break
again, with a static image.

Comment #10 on issue 114683 by adslot....@adslot.com: Load webpage, then it

I'm seeing the same issue, Version 20.0.1096.1 dev, Mac OS X 10.7.3,
1440x900 resolution, ~20 tabs open over two windows.

Extensions:

AdBlock 2.5.27
Atlassian Bonfire 1.9.5.0
Facebook Friend Exporter 2.2.2
JSONView 0.0.30
Surplus 4.0.6

Happens for me on many webpages - an example would be watching a YouTube
video. The page loads, content is displayed for a split second, and then it
all goes blank. The video starts playing and the sound works fine, but the
page is still blank. If I start resizing horizontally from the right, after
about 100-200 pixels, the page appears again.

Interestingly enough, if I restart - the same tab appears to load fine -
the video page appears as normal and I can play as per usual, but not for
long - it seems that opening a new tab, visiting a new page, can then cause
the original tab to go blank again. Will keep exploring.

I'm still seeing it too on 20.0.1096.1 dev. And I also see it on youtube
just as explained above. I even saw it when I cam to this page

see what @michael has posted.

Glad I'm not the only one anymore.

What can we collect to help with this issue?

Or is this google's attack on wide screens, 1st #whitespace on google+, now
this ;)

This problem has been so annoying, that I've gone to the beta and
production trains trying to get a way from it. No such luck. I'm running
Version 19.0.1084.52 and I still have the problem. I've also tried
different flag options (one at a time) to see if they resolve the issue,
they don't.

I love chrome, but this is become so bad, that I'm just a few days away
from switching back to firefox which is looking better and beter every day.

I started experiencing this about a week ago on Mac OS X Lion (both before

I have a first generation Mac Pro with an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card
and an NVIDIA GeForce 880 GT video card. I noticed that a page which loaded
as entirely white on one monitor loaded correctly on the other earlier
today. Unfortunately, some pages seem to fail to load on either monitor.

It looks like the problem occurs when the web page uses Flash although I'm
not really sure.

This is well on its way to becoming a major issue for me.

I'm using Version 19.0.1084.52.

Only way I've been able to virtually eliminate it is by turning off all but
the most essential plugins in chrome://plugins. As above, this includes
Flash, but also Chrome PDF Viewer, Facebook Video Calling, Java, and
SharePoint. Not sure if there's a smaller group than these that would work,
but disabling Flash alone did not fully eliminate the problem for me.

When the bug occurs, it happens every time, but not with every URL.

Comment #36 on issue 114683 by dabou...@gmail.com: Load webpage, then it
I see that the status of this bug is listed as unconfirmed and that the
Action field says "FeedbackNeeded". What sort of feedback is needed?

My sense is that the problem is definitely related to Flash in some way.
This is based on watching when the problem appears and when it doesn't. I'm
using two different flash blocking extensions (Flashblock version 1.2.11.12
and Kill-Flash version 1.5). I have tried each separately and neither seems
to completely prevent this problem. It does seem like the Flashblock
extension is more effective than the Kill-Flash extension. I have verified
that pages which fail to load when these extensions are turned off
sometimes (but not always) do load properly when one or the other of these
extensions are turned on. I'm trying with both of them for now just to see
if together they help more than either separately.

Just to be complete and clear - these Flash blocking extensions are the
only extensions that I use. I have also disabled the Chrome PDF reader, the
Adobe Adobe Acrobat NPAPI plugin and the SharePoint Browser plugin. The
plugins that are turned on are Remote Viewer (no version specified), Native
Client (no version specified), Flash (version 11.2.202.235) / Shockwave
Flash (version 11.2 r202), RealPlayer Plugin.plugin (no version specified)
and QuickTime (version 7.7.1).

I have noticed that a Google Reader tab will sometimes go completely white
as I scroll down the screen. As near as I can tell, the tab sometimes goes
white just as a Flash-based ad is starting to become visible.

It is clear that a fair number of people are running into this problem. Is
it still actually the case that nobody within the Chrome development team
has encountered this issue? This is what a status of "Unconfirmed" would
seem to imply yet it seems strange that all the people commenting above
have seen it and nobody in the Chrome dev team has encountered it.

Is there any other information that I or the other folks reporting this
issue could provide which might be useful?

It happens on webpages with embedded video and sometimes even with pictures
only.

It always happens when my 1password extension wants to save a new password.
I then have to resize the window with the edges and it becomes responsive
again.

Google we love you but please fix Chrome!

Also reported as issue 118149 and it's being worked on. Let's consolidate
the two in the interest of having all the relevant information in one spot.

Comment #45 on issue 114683 by dabou...@gmail.com: Load webpage, then it
As suggested, I turned on the FPS counter flag and turned off the Flash
blocking extension that seemed to work best. I just encountered the issue
(entire webpage went blank). There is no FPS counter or anything else
visible on the webpage.

I've just turned FlashBlock back on and reloaded the web page
(www.edmontonjournal.com) successfully.

I'm pretty sure that we were asked to turn on the FPS counter as a
troubleshooting measure, but it has seems to have resloved the problem for
me, and I DO NO see a counter anywhere.

Comment #47 on issue 114683 by kenji...@chromium.org: Load webpage, then
Sorry for the confusion.

Enabling the FPS counter was indeed a troubleshooting to step to find out
if the GPU accelarated path was involved.

I am not sure how to explain that enabling the FPS counter solved the issue
for jj.routerguy as well as one user on our JP help forum. Feel free to
turn it off and report back if the issue re-surface later.

I would also like to say that turning on the FPS counter resolved the issue
for me. Temporarily, at least. Then the FPS counter disappeared and the
issue reappeared. I had to disable and then reenable to the couter. But, it
is usually only a temporary solution. Unfortunately, I am going to have to
resort back to Firefox for the time being.

If i really want to see something- i have to load the page then press the
STOP button as quickly as possible and sometimes that freezes things before
the page disappears.

I have been experiencing the same issue since I switched to Chrome a few
days ago. The issue only seems to resolve when I close a few tabs with
embedded flash, but I would of course like to keep those tabs open.

Though I love Chrome when it functions properly, this issue is making the
browser nearly unusable. Back to Firefox for now.

Same problem here, and getting worse.

OSX 10.7.4
Chrome 19.0.1084.56

Getting very frustrating. I'm having to load many pages in Safari instead
because Chrome page goes blank. I've tried the clicking stop trick for a
while but now it's now working very well any more as the page is now going
blank sooner. ...probably as images on the page etc. are being cached.

Just throwing in my .02 since I'm having the same problem. Resizing the
browser window to make it more narrow solves it but it's still annoying.
Restarting Chrome seems to help temporarily as well but it always comes
back. Like the user above, I'm not having this problem on my Powerbook,
just my iMac.

We are closing in on fixing the memory leak with Flash. In order to verify
that this is indeed the root cause of the whiteouts, it would help a lot if
you could do the following test when you start seeing the whiteouts:

Open up chrome's task manager (Wrench Menu -> Tools), find the
Shockwave/Flash process, jot down the memory usage for it and then kill the
process. Please report the memory usage number and whether by killing it
you are able to open new tabs and see their contents.

Thanks!

Comment #85 on issue 114683 by wiltz...@chromium.org: Load webpage, then it
Hey folks,

Can those who can reproduce this issue help us by testing under certain
conditions?

1. Disable Flash hardware acceleration.
2. If that doesn't fix it, disable Flash completely
3. If that doesn't fix it, upgrade to Chrome Beta (currently Chrome 21)

We have fixes for all of the above stages under way, but if all 3 of those
things don't fix it and you can still reproduce the whiteouts, please post
and let us know. Thanks,

Tom

completely blank
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=114683

Basically to reproduce you need to have OSX Lion and large screen. Open
several tabs (about 17) and then open some page with loads of graphics.
Screen will go blank.

It goes away if you decrease the screen size.

Please, you really have to fix this.

Best
b.

Hooray :)

It seems to be working just fine for 21.0.1180.49 beta (with no changes to
flash h/w accelleration)

yay :)

Nope, none of the above solutions worked for me. Unfortunately my situation
seems stranger than everyone else because I only have a problem with
Google+ pages.

Ok, just on a whim I deleted my Chrome user under Chrome settings. A bit of
a pain because it lost a bunch of bookmarks and apps, but this fixed the
blank G+ page problem.

Comment #90 on issue 114683 by ekirpic...@gmail.com: Load webpage, then it
I confirm that the same thing happens for me on many websites (e.g.
youtube, imgur) and it definitely depends on window size: I load a youtube
video, page goes blank, I start resizing the window (the page is constantly
blinking) and when it's small enough the page appears; when its big enough
the page disappears. It depends on the AREA, not X or Y size of the window.
Also, while I resize, youtube sound plays fine.

And now, suddenly, I resized that same window to larger size (I didn't
close or open any tabs, just kept switching between the tab where I'm
writing this bug description and the youtube tab) and the page DIDN'T
disappear. Looks like the whole effect disappeared - new youtube videos
don't go blank too.

Chrome version: 20.0.1132.57 , OS X 10.7.4, 15-inch macbook pro (in case
screen size matters). The page was going blank when the area was about
perhaps 80-85% of the screen area, and I'm not sure if this factor was
constant. Now is the first time this issue happened with me, even though
I've been using this exact system for quite a while (except perhaps chrome
auto-updates?)

Comment #91 on issue 114683 by nick1pre...@gmail.com: Load webpage, then it
I can confirm that #90 is saying. After a few tabs (perhaps 15), most
subsequent pages are affected. All extensions have been disabled, all
plugins have been disabled as well.

Resizing the window fixes the issue (while resized) - returning to the
original size whites out the window again.

I'm seeing this issue happen specifically with flash assets on Mac OS
X/Chrome 21. See attached movie for what's happening -- when I switch tabs,
some of the flash assets the page disappear. I've enabled the FPS counter
flag in chrome://flags, and it stays visible, so it doesn't appear the GPU
is crashing.

I have the same issue even after disabling 2D Canvas acceleration.

@clay.smith Are you getting any crashes (enable crash reproting and look in
about:crashes) when this happens? Does the problem reproduce in Canary or
Dev channels? Do you get messages about Shockwave or Flash crashing? Can
you look in the task manager and see if the GPU process stays alive even
after this happens (it might leave the FPS meter on even when it crashes)?
You're likely seeing a different bug, but who knows.

I have been having a problem with this lately too! I found this thread by
looking for a solution. I noticed that if I click to another tab and click
back the blank page is gone and the content is there, working properly. It
is highly annoying. I have never had any serious problems with Google
Chrome before and this is disappointing. I recently talked several family
and friends into switching to Chrome and I am pretty embarrassed.

Comment #102 on issue 114683 by b...@schwartzster.com: Load webpage, then
I experience this issue several times per week and seems to happen only on
pages with an embedded YouTube videos. Usually the blank page is white, but
I noticed that it is black when it occurs to pages on laughingsquid.com.
When I refresh the blank page, I can see the content and can sometimes
scroll while the page loads, but always lose the ability to scroll by the
time the page is loaded. Further refreshing does not make a difference. If
I go to another tab and back, the page goes blank again.

I have found two reliable ways to clear the issue: (1) Duplicate the tab
and close the not working one; (2) go to another page in the tab (by
clicking a hyperlink or typing a new address in the Omnibar) and then hit
the back button. I tried the window resizing methods mentioned above
without success.

My OS is Windows 7 and I have the following extensions installed: Add to
Amazon Wishlist, FancyTube, and Session Buddy.

I am running 21.0.1180.89. I disabled all extensions and am still having
the issue on some sites. It seems that if it happens to one page, it
happens to every page on that site. Not all tabs are not affected. I
previously stated that it seemed to only happen to pages with YouTube
videos embedded, but it has since happened on pages without any YouTube
videos. Also, the page isn't always white: when switching from a working
tab to an affected tabs it will show the content from the working tab.

I tried the process suggested in comment 95. The GPU process was 50k and
killing it fixed the issue.

This is happening to me since several months. Now on 22.0.1229.79, on
Win7x64 ultimate. I changed the HW 2 months ago, but that had no impact.

When opening a new page - it either goes blank or is just unresponsive.
Typically, after some time (have not timed it - a minute or so) then it
becomes responsive again. Does not happen with all pages but I can't
identify a pattern.
