Choosing the appropriate app model

Hello,

I am seeking general advice on whether or not Chromium Apps are a
valid option for our needs.

My company builds computer-based learning tools for special needs
kids. We currently have a cross-platform desktop application written
in Adobe AIR, but are considering moving away from that platform. We
originally chose Adobe AIR for a few reasons. The primary reason is
that the size of our application with all of its media is fairly large
- around 600MB, and it is essential with small children to deliver
content immediately. While I believe that we can fetch much of this at
run time as needed via http request, there is about a 100MB package of
media that must be available on the client machine at all times. Also,
it is desirable to be able to full-screen the application and hide
standard browser controls while a child is using the app.

All of the above is possible via Adobe AIR in the form of a desktop
application. My question is: can we do with this perhaps a Chromium
Hosted App? At the time of installation via the Chrome Web Store can
we download to the client machine a 100MB package and access it at run
time? Can we update that package later as necessary? Also, can we put
Chrome in full screen mode? Ideally we would be able to lock kids out
of exiting full screen mode, but most likely we can forego that
requirement.
